Nothing goes with great wine like good music, so once a week, I’m going to share an obscure song I rediscovered from back when music was actually good.
This week’s obscure song is one I stumbled onto about a year ago, and thought it was new music. I hoped it was because I loved the sound and the look- but the eye makeup on the women in the video gave the date away, and I pegged it at 1983.
I was right.
I have no idea how I missed this song back then. And no idea how I’d never heard of Platinum Blonde. I sent it to a friend who was heavily into MTv when we were both teenagers in the 80’s, and she’d never heard of it.
I read up on the band, and they’re from Canada, second in popularity only to Rush there back in the early 80’s. I would have guessed that honor belonged to Triumph (and I’m still skeptical), but nope, it’s Platinum Blonde.
I listened to a few of their other songs, but nothing else really caught my attention. But Doesn’t Really Matter? Wow, what a fantastic song, a fantastic look, and a fantastic memory of a time when music was so good you could miss out on songs that were big.
Enough said, check them out below, and next time you are drinking good wine, watch the video three glasses in. It just doesn’t ever get old. A new old favorite for me.
Saw them live in hometown of Toronto. Great live band. Standing in the dark was another great hit. Glad you discovered them.
